How to Bring an International Beverage Brand to the US

Build a focused American market-entry plan around product readiness, landed economics, distribution, and accounts.

Liquid Opportunities editorial library · Adapted from the Liquid Opportunities founder library. Updated November 6, 2026.

Assess readiness

Start with the product, category, current markets, production capacity, packaging, price position, and available launch resources. Identify what must change for the US market and who will be responsible for each part of the operating model.

Build the landed economics

Calculate the full cost of getting product into the intended US market. Confirm freight, insurance, storage, duties and taxes where applicable, partner margins, promotional support, and payment terms with the relevant providers. Test the resulting shelf price against the competitive set.

Confirm the operating and regulatory path

Identify the importer, manufacturer, distributor, and compliance responsibilities that apply to your product. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages follow different requirements. Use the appropriate US authorities and qualified advisers to confirm product, label, import, and state requirements before committing to a shipment.

Develop one market, then scale

Choose an initial geography and account set that match the consumer, partner network, budget, and execution capacity. Establish distributor relationships where needed and define regional and national account priorities separately. A national ambition benefits from a first-market plan that can be measured.

Manage the commercial work

Distributor appointments need account development, field follow-up, inventory review, and retailer support behind them. Set responsibilities and reporting before launch. Use depletion, account activity, repeat orders, and margin to decide whether the next market is ready.
